Adam Boehler Shares Vision on Future of Health Care in America

Albany, N.Y., July 16, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Capital Region native Adam Boehler, newly-appointed director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (better known as the Innovation Center), recently stopped by CDPHP. The visit – sponsored by CDPHP and the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) – gave local health care leaders a chance to hear Boehler’s vision for the federal health care agency.

The Innovation Center was established under the Affordable Care Act to develop and test Medicare and Medicaid payment methodologies and service delivery models. The center’s ultimate goals are to improve the quality of patient care, lower costs, and move toward value-based reimbursement models.

“I am thrilled that CDPHP had the opportunity to work with HANYS to bring health care powerhouse Adam Boehler to our service area,” said CDPHP president and CEO John D. Bennett, MD. “I look forward to working with Mr. Boehler in his new role to continue improving quality and lowering costs for health care consumers in the communities we serve.”

“The important work of the Innovation Center is helping to advance our shared Triple Aim goals of better healthcare, better patient experience of care, and lower costs,” said Bea Grause, RN, JD, President of HANYS. “We thank the Innovation Center’s new Director, Adam Boehler, for joining us for this unique opportunity to discuss the future of our healthcare improvement work together.”

“Improving healthcare is a never-ending journey that involves innovation, learning, and communication among all stakeholders,” said Mr. Boehler. “I thank CDPHP and HANYS for this opportunity to speak with healthcare leaders in New York’s Capital Region, and I look forward to working with you all to achieve our shared goals of better care and lower costs.”

Boehler is the founder and past CEO of Landmark Health, which provides home-based medical care for patients with complex health conditions. In 2016, CDPHP was one of the first health plans in the country to offer Landmark Health services to its members. Since then, Landmark Health has provided over 10,000 home visits to CDPHP members, cutting unnecessary hospitalizations by 14 percent.

Health care data transparency for the American patient, getting rid of unnecessary regulatory burdens, and aligning financial incentives across the industry are Boehler’s top priorities, in addition to focusing on the nation’s annual $1.3 trillion health care spend. If spending continues to rise, he remarked, we risk losing the entrepreneurial nature that is the United States.
