SAN MATEO, Calif. and LONDON, March 13, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — SignalFx, a leader in real-time operational intelligence for data-driven DevOps, today announced the opening of its European headquarters in London. The expansion follows a year of significant customer acquisitions, new partnerships and integrations, revenue growth, and new patents. With an expanded executive team and growing headcount, the company has to-date raised nearly $60 million in funding. The new headquarters will accelerate growth in Europe as the company broadens its global customer base.
Founded in 2013 as the only real-time monitoring platform for cloud-native architectures, SignalFx has won significant relationships with Fortune 500 enterprise companies across all verticals, including financial services, media, telecommunications, retail, hi-tech, healthcare, manufacturing, and consumer products.
SignalFx secured $30 million in series C funding in October 2017 from current investors Andreessen Horowitz and Charles River Ventures. This follows a $20 million series B and $8.5 million series A round, which brings the company’s total capital raised to $58.5 million.
“With our extensive customer growth, innovations, patents and leadership team expansion, 2017 was a landmark year. Our momentum is underscored by today’s announcement of our expansion to Europe,” said Karthik Rau, Founder and CEO of SignalFx. “Having a SignalFx team on the ground in the United Kingdom enables us to better meet the unique business and technology needs of European companies as we continue to gain global market share.”
Much of the company’s growth follows key executive appointments in 2017, including Mark Cranney, Chief Commercial Officer; Arijit Mukherji, Chief Technology Officer; Rajesh Raman, Chief Architect; Patrick Lin, Chief Product Officer; Tom Butta, Chief Marketing Officer; Travis Patterson, Vice President Worldwide Sales; and Stephen Tsuchiyama, Vice President Global Partner Sales and Alliances. This leadership team has led innovative and rapid-growth companies like Andreessen Horowitz, Cisco, Facebook, Google, Opsware, PTC, Red Hat, Sprinklr and VMware.
“SignalFx is a cloud trailblazer,” said Devdutt Yellurkar, general partner at Charles River Ventures. “We look forward to seeing how the company continues to expand its technology offerings and operations as it delivers premier real-time operational intelligence for next-generation infrastructure.”
The unique technology powering SignalFx’s streaming architecture has been awarded six patents in the last year, with several more still pending. Key innovations address the unique challenges posed by ingesting, processing, and analyzing massive amounts of streaming data at low latency from millions of distributed systems.
In 2017 SignalFx launched real-time operational intelligence for Kubernetes environments and new alerting capabilities, and rolled out integrations with Google Cloud Platform, Apache Spark, Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF) and Prometheus. The company announced its availability on the AWS Marketplace and AWS Serverless Application Repository, and further enhanced SignalFx’s AWS service offering with the launch of Cloud Optimizer for EC2 and native Lambda monitoring. As a testament to SignalFx’s advanced real-time streaming architecture, robust real-time operational intelligence, and commitment to enabling digital transformation, Red Herring named the company a Top 100 North America winner and Gartner recognized SignalFx as a Cool Vendor in Performance Analysis for 2017.
“As more enterprises are employing dynamic components like microservices, containers, and serverless environments, organizations increasingly need a new breed of tool that can monitor the large volumes of operations data being generated,” said Nancy Gohring, senior analyst at 451 Research. “With its ability to scale very large and return analytics quickly, SignalFx is well positioned to meet the monitoring needs of modern application environments.”
“At athenahealth, we provide the tools that help our customers focus on their patients instead of paperwork. Our platform provides critical patient information, so it’s important that we have real-time visibility across our multi-cloud platform,” said Carlos Gonzales, Sr. Cloud Engineering Manager, athenahealth. “We knew our existing open source solution takes specialized skills to maintain. As a result of multiple vendor discussions and discovery, we partnered with SignalFx to help us grow throughout our cloud transformation journey.”
“CarbonBlack provides a predictive security platform with advanced streaming analytics, next generation AV, EDR, and managed threat hunting for Fortune 500 companies. Our platform is a critical first line of defense for thousands of our customers. In order to maintain our critical SLAs we must be proactive with issues and address concerns before they affect clients,” says Chris Fournier, Senior Manager, Site Reliability Engineering, CarbonBlack. “We chose SignalFx because of its ability to scale across our entire complex infrastructure, provide advanced alerting, a powerful API, out-of-the-box visibility, and transparent pricing.”
“We didn’t fully appreciate how limited our monitoring and alerting systems were until we finally had the chance to implement and optimize both with SignalFx,” says Aaron Pacheco, Product Manager at Acquia. “Teams now see the true value of our monitoring and alerting systems, and SignalFx has become core to how we do business. We chose SignalFx because it was robust enough for our technical teams, yet easy enough for our non-technical users. Our employees feel more empowered and are delivering tangible benefits as a result. The productivity gains alone save us at least 138 hours per month, or close to that of a full-time employee. All told, we estimate that the total value of the time saved across teams at Acquia, plus the savings associated with all of the hardware retirements we were able to implement due to SignalFx, came in at over $1 million during our first year.”
“Additionally, customer feedback has been amazing,” continued Pacheco. “They love seeing the data on their own instances. We can now make recommendations quickly and with confidence. Customers come to us saying, ‘We were able to look at our data, troubleshoot our application performance issues and determine that we needed to buy more capacity.’ Because they have access to their data it makes selling and customer satisfaction so much easier.”
“Cloud9 Technologies is a cloud communications service provider that provides a secure, high-performance solution for voice and collaboration services designed for the institutional trading community. We needed a consolidated monitoring platform for both our AWS infrastructure metrics as well as our custom application metrics,” said Tanya Dukacheva, Lead SysOps Engineer at Cloud9 Technologies. “We chose SignalFx due to its focus on cloud services, ability to handle custom metrics, plus provide complex and smart analytics on them, and the real-time alerting capabilities.”
