SACRAMENTO, Calif., Jan. 25, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Timothy Quinn, executive director of the statewide Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA), issued the following statement today in response to Gov. Jerry Brown’s State of the State address:

“Through his four terms as governor, Gov. Jerry Brown has demonstrated the courage to deal with some of California’s toughest challenges, including water.

“Governor Brown led in the enactment of the 2014 Water Bond which became Proposition 1.  We were pleased that Governor Brown mentioned the water bond as one of the Legislature’s major bipartisan accomplishments during his time as governor.

“ACWA supports a comprehensive approach to water solutions, and the Brown Administration’s California Water Action Plan is based on such an approach.

“One part of a comprehensive approach to water storage is having water available during dry periods.  Proposition 1 included $2.7 billion for water storage.  The governor acknowledged the importance of storage when he said the state will soon start spending funds for storage that we have needed for decades.”

ACWA is a statewide association of public agencies whose more than 440 members are responsible for about 90% of the water delivered in California. For more information, visit www.acwa.com
