SAN DIEGO, Dec. 27, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Amid the end of the holiday season, Newsgroup The Recover tells about the connection between the restaurant Industry and addiction. Statistics drawn by the National Institute of Health and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration show that the Accommodation and Food Service Industries have a higher percentage of illegal drugs and alcohol use at twice the national average.

Due to the nature of the employees’ work, restaurant workers can be surrounded by stimulant type drugs to keep up with their long nocturnal hours. Restaurants are less likely to drug test and so users feel that they won’t be caught as the odds are in their favor. Daily take home cash can feed the employee’s addiction while leaving their paycheck to be spent on household bills. High turn over rates bring in new employees on a weekly basis and different things for employees to try. It’s a melting pot of dangerous choices disguised as a fun-filled work environment.

Studies concluded by the National Institute of Health, and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration have found that the highest rates of “Past month illicit drug use” were found in the accommodations and food services industry 19.1% and 16.9% had the highest rate of past year substance use disorder.

Those who work in the industry truly know about the day to day temptations faced by the workplace and can attest to what types of environments can be called normal. After all, the restaurant industry employs over 14 million people per year in the United States. That makes up nearly 10% of the workforce for the entire United States. Without some of the checks and balances, workers could possibly be faced with overcoming an addiction they had no intention of obtaining while just trying to pay their bills.
