Rick Ladendorf, President of Prevo Health explains, “We are grateful for the Founders support and financial contribution to one of the most important issues affecting the long-term sustainability of the private club industry – Health & Wellness.

Rick adds, “Wellness is a multi-generational mega-trend that is shaping the future of traditional golf, country, city and yacht clubs and clubs of all sizes and geographic locations. Many top-tier private clubs have invested millions of dollars in fitness and wellness amenities that cater to the six living generations while the vast majority of private clubs have yet to create a culture that includes fitness, wellness, healthy menus, farm-to-table solutions, earned media strategies and relevant amenities that cater to multiple generations.”

The Wellness Project™ is a private club initiative focused on helping all private clubs leverage health and wellness principles that attract and retain dues paying members in an effort to stay relevant and sustainable.

The Wellness Project™ Mission; Expand the base of prospective club members using an earned media strategy that targets potential members that may not have previously considered a private club membership. The Wellness Project™ bridges the gap between the club and the community by sharing newsworthy stories that resonate with members of the community.

For example, Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa OK was featured on the local news when the reporters learned thirty-six employees volunteer twice per year at Irongate, a local food bank, where the club supplies and prepares the food and feeds 800 people. The local media loved the story and it generated goodwill and media buzz for the club.

The Wellness Project™ provides a forum from which industry experts will collect, organize and interpret the trends and share best-practices to help the industry stay relevant financially, socially and environmentally and to better serve their members, staff and the community.

According to the Club Managers Association of America, the private cub industry spends $19 billion per year on goods and services. Additionally, the private club industry employs approximately five hundred thousand people, services nearly three million members and collectively donates hundreds of millions of dollars to local charities annually.

Many clubs have formed charitable foundations that host fundraisers, golf tournaments, fashion shows and events and donate time and money to the member’s favorite charities. The philanthropic impact in the community is profound and the Founders of the Wellness Project™ are actively involved in the process.

Private Clubs have a corporate social responsibility and are very important to the local economy as an employer, a business and as the community “piazza”, where like-minded people gather to socialize.

Case in point, Robbie Ames, General Manager of Sea Pines Country Club, Hilton Head Island SC, reached out to the local Island Packet newspaper to introduce the $2.3 Million renovation of the Pub, Grille and outdoor dining, indoor, outdoor and children’s pool. The Island Packet, a local newspaper featured Sea Pines Country Club in print and digitally with a one minute video. Robbie explains, “We believed this was a perfect opportunity for some community wide messaging to reach potential community influencers and potential members to the Club. As they say in Public Relations, any PR is good PR”.

This is not your grandfathers club!

Millennials, GenExer’s and young families are joining private clubs for social, recreation and culinary reasons, many of which don’t play golf. In response to the changing demographics, declining number of golfers and increased demand for fitness, 67% of private clubs surveyed said they plan on adding or enhancing the fitness facility within the next three years to accommodate the growing demand for fitness.

On behalf of the private club industry, we would like to thank the dedicated and passionate Founders for their input and continued support to such a worthy cause.
