The dessert recipe contest, new for 2016, included two rounds of judging based on creativity and originality, taste and presentation. The first round took place July 27 at the Horticulture, Craft & Culinary Pavilion at Wisconsin State Fair Park. The four finalists presented their recipes during Friday’s final round at the Wisconsin State Fair.

The finalists each displayed Patrick Cudahy bacon recipes in fair-themed desserts. The winner, Cindy Paul, takes home Patrick Cudahy Sweet Apple-Wood Smoked Bacon for a year, and a $250 cash prize. Each finalist also received a cash prize. Paul delivered a dish with the unmistakable flavor and quality of Patrick Cudahy bacon. “Move Over Pretzels, Here Comes Patrick Cudahy Bacon” are apple-wood smoked bacon strips, basted in maple syrup and drizzled with dried cranberries, crusted almonds and pretzels. Patrick Cudahy fans can easily enjoy the winning recipe at home by visiting www.facebook.com/patrickcudahymeats beginning next week.

“This was an excellent experience, I was just so happy to be here and certainly never expected to win the dessert recipe contest,” said Cindy Paul, first-time winner. “I really enjoyed being able to use my imagination when creating ‘Move Over Pretzels, Here Comes Patrick Cudahy Bacon’, and the best part is I’ll have Patrick Cudahy Sweet Apple-Wood Smoked Bacon for one year!”

Cooking demonstrations, live music, giveaways, and a celebrity cooking competition also highlighted a day full of bacon-loving excitement. Teams were instructed to create three recipes using Patrick Cudahy Sweet Apple-Wood Smoked Bacon, meats and cheeses. Lindsey Slater and Sally Severson from WISH-TV won the Patrick Cudahy celebrity cooking competition and received FREE Bacon and Ham for a year. The duo will donate their winnings to charity.

“Patrick Cudahy Day has been a tremendous success,” said Bud Matthews, Senior Vice President, Patrick Cudahy. “Through our partnership with the Wisconsin State Fair, we’ve been able to offer our fans and Wisconsin neighbors one-of-a-kind experiences. We’re delighted to see everyone have such a wonderful time at the fair.”
