Most techies do not like companies like COPY. They consider them to be “patent trolls.” Of course most of those that say that hold no patents and have never spent a moment on developing anything that everybody else wants.

Here is COPY’s “Business Overveiw” from their web site:

“CTI’s management team has over 30 years of combined experience in Patent Monetization and Patent Assertion, and has generated in excess of $150 million patent licensing revenues. CTI currently has 66 U.S. Patents and 11 U.S. Patent applications with coverage primarily in six technology areas: Key Based Encryption, E-Paper® Electrophoretic Display, Nano Field Emission Display (“NFED”), Micro Electro Mechanical Systems Display (“MEMS”), Loyalty Conversion Systems, and Window Frame Construction.. CTI’s primary business is the monetization and assertion of patents, and the acquisition of patents and patent monetization and assertion rights from third parties.”

I like it because they have the assets, and they are well on their way to monetize these patents. You may see lawsuit filings at times, but companies like COPY are far more likely to make their money by simply licensing the patents. Some of that revenue will not even get news releases. I am absolutely keeping my eye on COPY.
