TORONTO, Sept. 20, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) today announced mutual fund net sales and net assets for August 2018. 

The combined assets of Canada’s mutual fund industry totalled $1.54 trillion. Assets increased by $8.6 billion or 0.6% compared to July 2018.

The mutual fund industry recorded net sales of $299 million and year-to-date net sales of $15.5 billion. 

Sales Highlights:

  • Long-term fund net sales were $43 million in August and year-to-date net sales were $14.5 billion. Year-to-date long-term fund net sales were 61.0% lower than year-to-date, 2017.
  • Balanced fund net sales were $146 million in August and year-to-date net sales were $7.5 billion. Year-to-date balanced fund net sales were 64.8% lower than year-to-date, 2017.
  • Equity fund net redemptions were $24 million in August and year-to-date net sales were $4.6 billion. Year-to-date equity fund net sales were 6.1% lower than year-to-date, 2017.
  • Bond fund net redemptions were $405 million in August and year-to-date net sales were $280 million. Year-to-date bond fund net sales were 96.9% lower than year-to-date, 2017.
  • Money market fund net sales were $257 million in August and year-to-date net sales were $989 million. Year-to-date money market fund net sales were 517% higher than year-to-date, 2017.
