Florida’s second largest district partners with Learning A-Z to provide its elementary schools with professional learning and an award-winning curriculum resource that blends science and literacy

TUCSON, Ariz., Aug. 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — After a comprehensive review of instructional programs for science courses, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) has chosen Science A-Z® to be part of its instructional materials adoption in science for grades K–5. Developed by Learning A-Z®, Science A-Z is an award-winning curriculum resource that blends science and literacy into one captivating K–6 curriculum.

BCPS, the second largest school district in Florida and the sixth largest in the nation, will make Science A-Z available to all 143 of its elementary schools this fall. In addition, BCPS is partnering with Learning A-Z to provide K–5 teachers with professional learning to help them integrate Science A-Z into their curriculum and use the resources to achieve instructional goals.

“One of Broward County’s overarching goals is to have a strong literacy component in its K–5 science program, and that’s one of the reasons why they chose Science A-Z,” said Patrick Marcotte, president of Learning A-Z. “We’re excited to partner with BCPS to provide its elementary school teachers with the standards-aligned resources they need to develop students’ science knowledge and practices, while also supporting key literacy skills.”

Science A-Z provides thousands of resources to teach core science ideas and practices, multilevel books to differentiate reading instruction, and hands-on experiments and projects to apply science concepts. To complement BCPS’ blended approach to K–5 science instruction, Science A-Z content is available in printable, projectable, online, and mobile formats. Resources can be used for one-to-one, small-group, and whole-class instruction.

“With Science A-Z, Broward County can make the most of its blended learning approach and give diverse learners multiple ways to access the content,” said Marcotte. “From differentiated lessons and activities, to hands-on experiments and projects, to digital and printable reading materials, Science A-Z will enable teachers to personalize their instruction to help students meet the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards (NGSSS) for Science—cultivating their curiosity and excitement about science.”
