The organization’s new brand identity and website expected to expand influence, inform and empower advocates, and drive engagement.

Englewood, Colo., June 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — National leaders in disentangling mental health and criminal justice, the non-partisan and non-profit organization known as Equitas this week announced a new brand identity and online media presence. On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, Equitas officially became The Equitas Project, launching a new website, brand name, and brand image.

As Equitas Project Executive Director Vincent Atchity explained, “our new name conveys the sense that what we should be reaching for, as a nation, is what we’ve been saying we’re about all along. We call ourselves the Land of the Free and yet we’re known as the Incarceration Nation. As long as that’sour reality, none of us can be in a state of good mental health. When the mission of the Equitas Project is completed, as a nation, we will improve our mental health and we will no longer rely upon the criminal justice system to manage mental illness.” The new name better conveys what The Equitas Project does: “Equitas” refers to justice and fairness, while “Project” reflects the collaborative work required to improve mental health and reduce incarceration.

The website and social media platforms have been redesigned to illustrate the interventions across a lifetime, and across systems, that are needed to achieve greater health, justice, and prosperity as a nation. The site puts a spotlight on individuals and communities that are in the forefront of the nation’s mental health and criminal justice reform movement, and will advance The Equitas Project’s efforts to activate leaders, influence policy, and energize grassroots.
