OAKVILLE, Ontario, June 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — If you are raising a glass or two to celebrate Canada Day this weekend, MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are asking you to plan ahead and arrange a sober ride home.

“As Canadians all across our great country plan their Canada Day weekend, we’re reminding everyone about the importance of having safe and sober transportation,” said MADD Canada National President Patricia Hynes-Coates. “Getting behind the wheel if you are impaired by alcohol and/or drugs can lead to tragedy. But the tragedy can so easily be prevented.”

Every year, hundreds of Canadians are killed and tens of thousands are injured because people drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are emphasizing the vital role that every single person can play in keeping roads and communities safe from impaired driving.

  • Never drive a car, boat, ATV or any other vehicle while impaired;
  • Never ride with a driver who is impaired;
  • Call 911 to report suspected impaired drivers.

“Allstate Canada and its agents across the country join MADD Canada in wishing everyone a Happy Canada Day, and in sharing the sober driving message,” said Ryan Michel, President and CEO of Allstate Insurance Company of Canada. “Let’s all work together to have a Canada Day weekend that is free from impaired driving crashes. Please celebrate responsibly and plan ahead for a sober ride home.”

However you are celebrating, please arrange a sober ride home. Call an Uber or a cab, arrange a designated driver, take public transit or stay the night. Revelers looking for a safe, sober and reliable ride home at the push of a button can check out Uber, MADD Canada’s Official Designated Driving App. Visit https://www.uber.com/partner/en-ca/madd-canada/ for more information.
