Celebrating Our Partnerships on National Indigenous Peoples Day

Yellowknife, N.W.T., June 21, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Every year June 21 marks the Summer Solstice as well as National Indigenous Peoples Day. Though Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) recognizes one day is not sufficient to celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding achievements and contributions made by Indigenous Peoples to our country, we believe it is an important moment to honour all First Nation, Métis and Inuit members.

“DUC and Indigenous communities have many common values around water and wetlands. Partnering to advance wetland conservation across the boreal region ensures that these shared values are available for future generations,” says Kevin Smith, national manager of the DUC Boreal Program.

DUC has great respect for the traditions, knowledge and involvement of Indigenous Peoples in Canada and it is our aim to build trust through honesty and transparent communications. DUC is committed to building healthy relationships, and we work hard every day to build strong partnerships between diverse communities in Canada which are inclusive of Indigenous Peoples.

“It’s encouraging to see the positive collaborative work between governments, Indigenous communities, industry, and environmental organizations to create effective boreal conservation models,” says Barrett Lenoir, DUC manager in N.W.T. “We want to see more of these partnerships here in the N.W.T. and across Canada.”

DUC values its partnerships and connections with Indigenous communities across the country as we work together to achieve a bright future for the environment and all people.

DUC extends our best wishes to the Indigenous communities across Canada in recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21, 2018.

Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is the leader in wetland conservation. A registered charity, DUC partners with government, Indigenous peoples, industry, non-profit organizations and landowners to conserve wetlands that are critical to waterfowl, wildlife and the environment. www.ducks.ca
