Glen Ellyn, Ill., June 14, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — College of DuPage and National Louis University recently recognized 22 graduates of the 3+1 Human Services Bachelor of Arts program during a celebration on COD’s Glen Ellyn campus.
The degree is designed for students who are working toward either an Associate of Applied Science degree in Human Services Generalist or Addictions Counseling at College of DuPage. During the first three years of the program, students complete their associate’s and additional general education credits before transferring up to 90 credit hours of courses offered at COD’s tuition rate. The fourth year, students complete an additional 30 credit hours of courses taught by National Louis professors at College of DuPage at a reduced NLU tuition rate.
The students will receive their Bachelor of Arts degrees in Human Services from NLU on Saturday, June 16.
COD Human Services Associate Professor Jason Florin said the program gives students a good idea of their next steps after receiving their A.A.S. from the College.
“Students often start off with a seed of an idea and passion for helping people,” he said. “The 3+1 program gives them something to be excited about, a clear direction and a lot of incentive to stick with it.”
Susan Coulson (Aurora), who is earning her B.A. from NLU, plans to pursue a career in addictions admissions. She credited the preparation from COD instructors with providing a solid foundation for her studies.
“The program at COD was outstanding,” she said. “I feel like our instructors were the best and helped advance us much more than I expected.”
Kelly Poapst (Villa Park), who is also graduating from NLU, said she likely would not have completed her bachelor’s degree had it not been for the 3+1 Human Services program.
“I probably would have been satisfied with my associate’s degree in Addictions Counseling,” she said. “The affordability played a big role and the convenience of learning everything on one campus was important for me.”
April DiFatta (Addison), who recently graduated from the program and is now pursuing a Master of Science degree in School Counseling, shared a similar sentiment.
“The program helped me achieve what I never thought was possible because of time and cost,” she said. “The staff and professors not only are helpful but also bring many real-life experiences to class to learn from.”
