Detroit, MI, May 22, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Marygrove College is pleased to announce that it will host a month-long professional development series for teachers beginning July 2. The series is designed to help educators review and renew their skills in teaching comprehension, fluency, phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, and writing. The cost per workshop is $65. Professional Development Hours (SCECHs) that result from completing the workshops are also available for $25 per course.

“With the 3rd Grade Reading Law, Michigan officially recognized the need to improve literacy instruction across the state,” said Dr. Diane Brown, IHM, chair of Marygrove’s Education Department.  “Teachers have the passion to help students learn to read, write, and understand – they just need access to affordable, high-quality professional development opportunities with specific instruction in research-based teaching methodologies.  These workshops are designed to meet the needs of teachers across all grade levels who work with students struggling with literacy.”

Workshops will be taught by leading educators and literacy specialists including Adolescent Critical Reading Intervention (ACRI) creator Dr. Sharon Russell; Associate Professor of Literacy at University of Minnesota Dr. Lori Helman; Pearson Literacy Specialist Samantha Richardson; Evidence-Based Literacy Instruction (EBLI) creator Nora Chahbazi; and many others.
