Toronto, Ontario, May 17, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Habitat for Humanity Canada held elections at their annual general meeting on Saturday, May 12, and announced the election of one new board member, Brad Peters, and one returning board member, Susan Green, to the National Board. The annual general meeting capped off Habitat Canada’s national conference, hosted by Habitat for Humanity Hamilton, which brought together over 400 delegates from local Habitats across the country.

Brad Peters started volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Saint John Region (New Brunswick) in 2012, and served a term as board chair beginning in 2015. He brings a wealth of experience from operations to marketing and is currently the Director of Corporate Branding for J.D. Irving, Limited.

Susan Green was first elected to the national board in 2015, and was re-elected to her second term. An active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity Edmonton in Alberta, Susan also served on Habitat Edmonton’s board from 2006 to 2013, including as board chair, and was the co-chair of the first-ever Habitat Women Build in Canada. Over her career, she has held senior executive leadership roles at the University of Alberta, the Alberta Cancer Board, the Alberta Cancer Foundation and the Government of Alberta.

“Both Brad and Susan bring valuable skills to a very strong national board,” said Greg Stewart, Chair of Habitat Canada’s National Board. “And both are long-time, engaged supporters of Habitat for Humanity in Canada, and our dedication to providing access to affordable homeownership to more families. We welcome them to an organization, and a board, that is committed to excellence in board governance and operational transparency, and has been accredited under Imagine Canada’s national Standards Program in recognition of that commitment.”

Habitat Canada would like to thank Don Bjornson, past chair, who leaves the board having been a member since 2011 and Terry Forth, who completed his ninth year and third term and was also chair of the Habitat Canada Foundation.
