VANCOUVER, British Columbia, March 13, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — A worker delegation from Best Service Pros representing cleaners at five campuses in BC, plan to deliver a petition signed by a majority of workers on Wednesday, urging the BC Labour Board Vice-Chair to allow workers to freely choose their union and have their ballots opened.

WHAT: Delivery of Petition to BC Labour Board Vice-Chair
WHEN: Wednesday March 14, 2018 at 9:30 AM
WHERE: Oceanic Plaza, 1066 West Hastings, BC Labour Relations Board – Suite 600

BACKGROUND

On Thursday January 18, 2018, over 230 Best Service Pros workers cast ballots on whether to join SEIU Local 2 and its Justice for Janitors campaign. Both CLAC and Best Service Pros have raised legal objections to the workers’ union application with SEIU that would see CLAC displaced from these public post-secondary institutions.

Best Service Pros and CLAC, an Employer-dominated ‘union,’ entered into a 10 year contract behind closed doors without the participation of a single worker, leaving these workers trapped in a decade long poverty deal.

Last year, when workers decided to leave CLAC and organize with SEIU, BEST and CLAC colluded to break their union drive by employing an aggressive anti-SEIU campaign based on intimidation, fear and the targeting of SEIU supporters and worker leaders. This has resulted in SEIU filing over 50 legal complaints at the British Columbia Labour Relations Board.
