PALM DESERT, Calif., Jan. 16, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — BIGHORN, the internationally recognized premier golf club and community located in the beautiful Coachella Valley of Southern California, just got better.  In unprecedented style, BIGHORN tore down its old Clubhouse at the height of its popularity and built a new one in only 16 months.  Members who went without a Clubhouse for only one season were welcomed back this year to a new standard for Clubhouse design and environment.  In this tableau for a new lifestyle experience the Clubhouse includes four ultra-exclusive, very chic Penthouses with views and immediate access to BIGHORN’s famed concierge service.

While traditional Clubhouses serve primarily as a place for golfers to gather before and after a round, BIGHORN’s Clubhouse serves a greater purpose.  As BIGHORN’s leader and Chairman, R D. Hubbard, remarked when describing this completely new amenity, “The Clubhouse is as much about living, playing, and entertaining as it is about enjoying a spectacular game of golf.”

“Ultimately created to meet the Members’ needs, the Clubhouse is a significant, modern statement of beauty, quality and utility,” says Carl Cardinalli, BIGHORN President. “It could not have happened without the vision and leadership of R. D. Hubbard and the efforts of a design and construction team of highly acclaimed and recognized members, including Swaback Partners Architects, Lusardi Construction Company, Blackbird Interiors, and Guy Dreier Designs.”

“The design is anything but ordinary,” explains John Sather, AIA, AICP of Swaback Partners. “We wanted to embrace the character of the surroundings and create an awe-inspiring design that moves the building forward, celebrating the panoramic mountain and down-valley views. We have created a seamless blend of indoor/outdoor living that occurs within an organic arc that welcomes you into the space, almost embracing you into the relaxed, fun, utopia lifestyle.”

“BIGHORN’s Clubhouse isn’t like anywhere else because the membership is unlike anywhere else,” Sather continues. “BIGHORN’s successful membership is open to bold, new ideas while at the same time wanting the ‘downtime’ casual feel that comes with enjoying a vacation retreat. Certainly there are elements of sophistication and organic materials, but it’s their inviting warmth and design that embrace members and their families and make them feel like they are home. This new gathering place blurs the lines of art and architecture.”

At 1000 feet above the valley floor the new Clubhouse was positioned to optimize the encompassing views of valley, mountains, and golf course. Nearly 2,000 lineal feet of champagne-painted fascia contrasts the Clubhouse from the desert’s blue skies, and complements perfectly the interior and exterior walls of travertine imported from Portugal and the expansive floor of limestone imported from Peru.  The stretch and reach of the structure was possible by the use of two million pounds of structural steel, one million pounds of rebar, and 95,000 cubic feet of concrete. So as not to obstruct views from generous patios and terraces accessing almost every area of the Clubhouse, unique glass panel railings add another dimension to the architecture of the building.

New event spaces, both indoor and outdoor, will facilitate BIGHORN’s more than 100 in-season events and accommodate its additional 250 private parties.  Besides the sophisticated interiors and unique, handmade faux finish surfaces complementing exquisite furniture, furnishings and art pieces found throughout the building, the bespoke Sharon Marston created, 16-foot long chandelier of hand blown glass leaves tied to strands of lighted fiber optics may be the crown jewel.  It is dazzling array as seen from afar or up close as one descends or ascends the grand stairwell connecting the main floor to The Hub.

The four Penthouses are exceptional residences ranging in size from 5,200 to 6,800 square feet and that doesn’t include the multiple, private outdoor patios.  They were designed by world-renowned architect Guy Dreier and reflect his signature contemporary style.  These homes are architecturally worthy of the accolades and awards they’re certain to garner, but more importantly they are a statement of luxury and concierge living that rivals any in the world. “We took all of the features and quality in the extraordinary homes found on BIGHORN’s homesites and built them into the Penthouses.” These unique, one-of-a-kind homes will be the joy of four very fortunate families.

As Hubbard reflects on BIGHORN’s latest innovation which pushes forward the concept of a private, residential club, “We’ve walked through the threshold of the future and are setting a new standard in the Clubhouse world. I look forward to seeing BIGHORN continue to set the standard for the finest Clubhouses of our time.”
