MEDFORD, Mass., Dec. 12, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Agero, Inc., the largest B2B provider of driving assistance services to automotive manufacturers and insurance providers in North America, today announced that in early 2018 it will commercialize an accident detection and driver behavior platform validated in-market by the 2 billion driving miles of its highly successful MileUp app.  MileUp is a groundbreaking approach to using mobile devices to crowdsource natural driving data, validating crash detection algorithms initially developed through extensive crash facility testing.  MileUp was built using Amazon Web Services serverless architecture, as highlighted in Amazon CTO Werner Vogel’s keynote and separate breakout sessions at Amazon’s recent AWS re:Invent 2017 conference.

Developed in response to the first spike in U.S. traffic fatalities in the past 50 years, the technology underlying MileUp harnesses the power of mobile telemetry and machine learning algorithms to detect crashes and shorten the time to notify emergency services.  This data set reflects natural, unmonitored driving behavior and real-life accident events with vetted evidence reports.  In addition, MileUp app participants received a driver dashboard providing education on their driving style, from speeding to mobile phone usage to handling the car’s acceleration, braking and cornering.  MileUp’s goal is to increase awareness of behaviors that may lead to accidents in order to better safeguard drivers.

“The U.S. has experienced a 7 percent increase in traffic fatalities over the past three years – a tragedy where minor behavioral changes or seconds shaved off accident response can literally save thousands of lives,” states Agero Chief Product & Marketing Officer, Christina DeRosa.  “Agero is in a unique position to influence this devastating trend, leveraging the compute power of Amazon Web Services to deploy a real-time solution that’s not reliant on any hardware or vehicle technology other than a cell phone – the critical gating factor for an accessible and scalable solution that reaches each of the 260 million cars on U.S. roadways.”

MileUp’s accident detection and driver behavior algorithms, has enabled Agero to develop a mobile telematics platform, called Driver360, that will be available to clients in 2018. Incrementally, the platform allows for features such as teen monitoring or maintenance reminders to complement its cornerstone roadside assistance and accident management processes.

Agero has a 45-year heritage of partnering with companies ranging from Ford, Volkswagen and Toyota, to Progressive and USAA in the pursuit of safeguarding consumers on the road. “MileUp’s unprecedented volume of driver miles has enhanced Agero’s vehicle safety portfolio by substantiating our Driver360 platform,” notes Agero Chief Client Officer, Cathy Orrico.  “We look forward to working closely with automotive and insurance providers to leverage our suite of services to enhance their customer’s driving experiences.”
