SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 08, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Tech CU (Technology Credit Union) today announced that it was named one of Silicon Valley’s most philanthropic companies by the Silicon Valley Business Journal, an honor the company has received for the past three years. Additionally, this holiday season, Tech CU announced it will be working closely with Family Giving Tree, a nonprofit that fulfills holiday wishes for children most in need from the Bay Area. This marks Tech CU’s 12th year supporting the organization.

Each year, the Silicon Valley Business Journal compiles a list of the top 50 most philanthropic companies in the region — with Tech CU making the list for the third year in a row. In 2016, Tech CU donated more than $152,000 in cash and performed 350 volunteer hours — in addition to the more than $1.7 million the credit union has invested in Bay Area communities since 2007.

“At Tech CU, we know how critical it is to support our local communities — something we do through both volunteerism and donations. From raising funds for those affected by the California fires to supporting children who need school supplies or holiday gifts, we are honored to be recognized amongst so many great companies,” said Todd Harris, CEO of Tech CU.

Additionally, Tech CU will continue its work with Family Giving Tree, a nonprofit working to ensure every child is made to feel like a valuable and empowered member of the community. This will include Tech CU employee volunteering opportunities to sort toys and a special holiday account promotion. For all new savings and checking accounts opened between Thanksgiving and December 31, 2017, Tech CU will make a donation to The Family Giving Tree to fulfill holiday the wishes of disadvantaged children.

“Tech CU is located in the Bay Area, a region experiencing unprecedented levels of unaffordability as the cost of living here continues to increase, many families struggle to put food on the table. This means that many in our community can’t afford to provide gifts for their children during the holiday season,” said Janikke Klem, Tech CU’s VP of Community and Government Relations. “Last year, through the generosity of our members and employees, we were able to fulfill 1,250 wishes and provide more than 175 volunteer hours.”
