CLEARWATER, Fla., Oct. 12, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — On Tuesday, October 17th 2017, starting at 6:30 pm Deputy Jessica Hughey of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office will deliver a free seminar on Online Safety, hosted by the Florida chapter of United for Human Rights at their headquarters in downtown Clearwater. Deputy Hughey will discuss the increased threat that social media poses to children and how to protect them.  The Church of Scientology-supported United for Human Rights Office is hosting the event to forward its campaign against human trafficking as social media is used by human traffickers to lure children away from their homes.

Deputy Hughey said. “Kids are learning to navigate the world, and they tend to be trusting and a bit naive when it comes to sharing personal information about themselves on the Internet. They might lack caution and can put themselves at risk. When we meet people face to face we might pick up on cues that help us understand their intentions whether they are good or bad. The internet masks these signals and it can be more difficult to tell whether the person you meet online really is who he or she says they are.”

To RSVP for the Online Safety seminar, call 727-467-6960 RSVP or email [email protected].
