Check Presentation to be held at Group’s June 25 Concert at Pico Rivera Sports Arena

LOS ANGELES, June 21, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Two-time GRAMMY nominees, Regional Mexican music group VOZ DE MANDO announced that proceeds from their immigrant rights anthem “Soldado Latino Americano” will go to Consejo de Federaciones Mexicanas en Norteamérica (COFEM) – one of the most influential immigrant organizations in the U.S. The money raised and donated will fund educational scholarships for Latinos living in the U.S. The group’s single has become an anthem for immigrants – from dreamers to hourly laborers – strengthening their commitment to their journey, the American Dream and the necessity of immigrant rights.

COFEM is a non-profit organization aimed at creating opportunities for Latino Immigrants in North America, with a special focus in California. VOZ DE MANDO announced the donation and scholarships at a press conference at Plaza Mexico in Los Angeles and acknowledged to the crowd that the immigrant population lives with a sense of insecurity about their future in pursuing their dreams in the U.S.

“Creating this alliance with Consejo de Federaciones Mexicanas en Norteamérica (COFEM) is very important to us as it helps us support Latino immigrants in this country as well as their children – the Dreamers,” said Jorge Gaziola, founder and singer of Voz de Mando. “This song is about the journey so many Latinos make – coming across the border, escaping political conflict, believing in the American Dream, watching their children enter the service to protect this country and that dream. We want to make sure that our dream – both the American Dream and the dream that the D.A.C.A. kids have – continue to be supported and understood. Latinos are a vital part of this country, and we want to support them and the continuing educational opportunities to keep it growing.”

Present at the press conference were VOZ DE MANDO, which includes the founders and brothers Jorge and Miguel Gaxiola along with COFEM Vice President Raúl Macias and Executive Director Anabella Bastida. Also present were three student scholarship recipients Brenda Ayala, Jesika de Jesus and Ricardo Beltrán.

The formal check presentation will occur during the group’s June 25 concert at Pico Rivera Sports Arena in Los Angeles.

“I used to live very happy
With my family close to me
But I knew very well
What my job was

What ironies of life
That the American dream pushes me away from my family
It took me to a distant country
To fight against political conflicts
To kill human beings

By law I’m a U.S. soldier
But in fact I’m an Inca a Catarcho
I am Boricua, Chapin a 100% Mexican.

I’m a warrior, I’m Latino, I’m Hispanic
If I wasn’t afraid of the wild desert and Bravo river
I’m not afraid of the enemy
I’m not even afraid of the devil
So you can see Mr. President what we are made of
Put me on the front line

I won’t run away from my fate
I’m brave for what’s in my blood
But I want to come back home“
