DULUTH, Minn., Oct. 14, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — IKONICS Corporation (NASDAQ:IKNX), a Duluth-based technology company, is pleased to announce Alpha FlexTrace™ won Product of the Year at the 2016 Specialty Printing & Imaging Technology Expo (SGIA) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Alpha FlexTrace, sold through IKONICS Chromaline Screen Print Products division, is a flexible, printed circuit substrate featuring a proprietary surface treatment that overcomes conductive ink spread, which is common in micro-circuit printing. The advanced surface properties of Alpha FlexTrace were developed by IKONICS to improve the print acuity of conductive pastes by maximizing ink deposit and controlling the circuit footprint at the substrate level.

According to an IDTechEx* report, the total market for printed, flexible and organic electronics is $26.54 billion in 2016 with a growth projection to $69.03 billion in 2026. Currently, the printed electronics industry is challenged with creating complex and smaller conductive traces.  Alpha FlexTrace gives conductive circuit printers the ability to make higher density, micro-line precision circuits possible—engineers can maximize real estate of screen printed circuits by designing more compact electronics. Emerging products resulting from the use of Alpha FlexTrace include antennas, touch screens, flexible solar cells, skin-applied medical devices and wearable electronics.

Bill Ulland, IKONICS CEO, said that he was very gratified by this recognition from SGIA.  “FlexTrace is game-changing technology for IKONICS,” Ulland said. “Credit goes to the IKONICS team members who developed the flexible substrate for the printed electronics industry.”
