LOS ANGELES, Sept. 22, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Free Speach Coalition announced that the San Diego County Democratic Party and the San Diego Republican Party have officially opposed Proposition 60, a statewide ballot initiative that would allow any resident of California to sue adult performers who make films where a condom isn’t visible, joining the California Democratic Party, California Republican Party, and numerous other parties and local clubs in opposing the controversial measure.

“When we see such strong bipartisan opposition against Proposition 60 in an election year like 2016, we must pause and realize how deeply flawed this initiative is,” says Eric Paul Leue, Executive Director of the Free Speech Coalition. “This is another important victory for adult performers, and the No on 60 campaign. Prop. 60 is ‘offering bounties and inviting frivolous lawsuits’ against an already marginalized workforce. It ‘doesn’t make sense’, it is ‘excessive’, and will cost taxpayers millions – diverting resources from education and healthcare.”

In addition to the San Diego County Democratic Party and the San Diego Republican Party, Proposition 60 also has been opposed by the California Democratic Party, California Republican Party, the California Libertarian Party, the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, the San Francisco Democratic Party, the Santa Clara Democratic Party, the San Mateo Democratic Party, the Sonoma County Democratic Party, the San Francisco Young Democrats, the Los Angeles Young Democrats, the Harvey Milk Democratic Club, the El Cerrito Democratic Club, the Robert F Kennedy Democratic Club, the Alice B Toklas LGBT Democratic Club, Equality California, San Francisco Medical Society, the Courage Campaign, AIDS Project LA, SF AIDS Foundation, the LA LGBT Center, the Transgender Law Center, and the performer advocacy group APAC, among many others.

Over the past month, five of California’s largest papers have also asked voters to Vote No on 60, including the San Diego Union Tribune.
