ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 7, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) today announced the appointment of Alexander “Alex” Frank Zemek to serve as its Vice President of Policy.

In this position, Mr. Zemek will have the responsibility of developing and promoting policy to key audiences in government and industry for America’s leading defense industry association.

“Our national security challenges are evolving, and so are the needs of the defense community. Alex brings with him a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge, and we are very fortunate to have his talent on the team,” said President and CEO Gen. Craig McKinley, USAF (Ret.).

“I am excited to join NDIA, particularly at this critical juncture for our national security. The policies promoted by NDIA are at the vanguard for America’s defense through industry engagement and technology development,” said Zemek.
 
Mr. Zemek joins NDIA with nearly two decades of experience – both at home and abroad – in defense, intelligence, and foreign affairs.

Mr. Zemek served over seven years as an intelligence officer with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and was selected to serve as a Legislative Fellow with the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs.

Prior to joining the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Mr. Zemek was appointed as the Executive Director of the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO at the U.S. Department of State, where he served for more than four years. From 2003-2004, he volunteered to serve in Iraq with the Coalition Provisional Authority as the Acting Director for Personnel and as a Special Assistant to the Presidential Envoy. Prior to that assignment, he joined the Office of the Secretary of Defense where he helped stand up and staff the Defense Business Board.

Mr. Zemek holds a bachelor’s degree with honors in history from Yale University and a master’s in strategic security studies with a focus in counterterrorism from the National Defense University, College of International Security Affairs. He also attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Seminar XXI on foreign politics and international relations.

Mr. Zemek is a recipient of numerous government awards, including the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service, Secretary of Defense Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the U.S. Department of State Meritorious Honor and Superior Honor Awards.
