MORRISTOWN, N.J., Oct. 22, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Kansas City District recently awarded Louis Berger and six other firms a $90 million indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity architect-engineering services contract. This contract provides Louis Berger with opportunities to develop and implement state-of-the-art remedial solutions and technologies at some of the United States’ most high profile contaminated sites.

The contract includes hazardous, toxic, radiological waste remedial investigations, engineering feasibility studies, remedial design, pilot testing of remediation technology, and construction oversight, as well as human health and ecological risk assessments. Much of the contract work spans U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 2 Superfund projects within New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, with potential for additional assignments within USACE’s Northwestern Division, including Seattle and Omaha districts. Louis Berger has performed investigation, design and construction oversight at contaminated sediment mega-sites, such as the Hudson River, the Lower Passaic River, Berry’s Creek, Cornell-Dubilier and Newark Bay on similar contracts in the past and is hopeful to perform similar services on this contract.

“Our twenty-five year long relationship with USACE Kansas City demonstrates our ability to resolve some of their most complex environmental challenges, and we look forward to continuing to support USACE’s critical mission,” said Ken Goldstein, Louis Berger senior vice president. “Through our partnership, we’re committed to the goal of cleaning up the environment and protecting human health and ecological systems for future generations.”

Under the contract and under USACE’s Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP), work is also expected to include identification, investigation and clean-up or control of sites that were contaminated during the United States’ early atomic weapons and energy programs in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.
