SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 22, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Today Larkin Street Youth Services celebrates the 20th anniversary of “Putting the Pieces Together” a colorful 96 panel Mosaic Mural at the Powell Street BART/MUNI station; created between 1992 and 1995 by over 300 Larkin Street clients under the leadership of Peter Carpou, currently Larkin Street’s Liason for the Arts and Cultural Development.
These 2′ x 4′ mosaic panels are an authentic and passionate reflection of issues facing homeless young people in San Francisco in the early 90’s, and many of these same issues continue to this day. The mosaic mural is recognized as one of the top nine mosaic murals in San Francisco.

Hill-DeGuzman, a former Larkin Street client involved with the Mosaic Mural project, who will be in attendance, stated “Peter got most of us involved as we hit the doors, his passion spread like wildfire throughout the center.” Other former clients involved in the Mosaic Mural project have stated the importance of not only Larkin Street’s services, but of the mural project itself, providing an artistic outlet as well as a place to feel safe and focus their thoughts away from the streets. Today, Larkin Street’s Art Program continues to provide avenues of healing for homeless and runaway youth, 12- 24 years old.
