ELKRIDGE, Md., Oct. 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is pleased to announce that Scott Murrell has joined the company after more than 33 years of exemplary service to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ). Mr. Murrell is the Director of Commercial Airport Services, supporting ARA’s work with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as well as helping to lead and grow ARA’s commercial airport business in general.
Mr. Murrell started his professional career with PANYNJ in 1982 as a Civil Design Engineer, rising through the ranks to become the Chief Civil Engineer in 2005. As the Chief Civil Engineer, Mr. Murrell was responsible for overseeing more than $1 billion of airport infrastructure projects, including a $300 million runway reconstruction at John F. Kennedy International Airport along with numerous road, bridge, tunnel, and port facility projects.

Mr. Murrell is a registered Professional Engineer in the states of New York and New Jersey and a recognized authority in airfield civil engineering. He has won numerous professional awards, including the 2014 American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Robert Horonjeff Award for the Advancement of Air Transportation Engineering and 2010 ASCE Civil Engineer of the Year (New Jersey Section). He participates in several professional organizations and committees, and currently serves as a member of the Board of Governors, Transportation and Development Institute of ASCE. He is a member of the FAA National Airport Pavement Test Machine Standards Board, and was a subject matter expert panel member for the FAA extended pavement life design initiative.
