SAN DIEGO, Oct. 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Lynx Technology today announced the release of Twonky 8.2, the newest version of the world’s leading software development kit (SDK) for media connectivity. Lynx Technology enables the best rich media experience for the products and services offered by consumer electronics companies, service providers and content providers in North America, Europe and Asia.
With the release of Twonky 8.2, Lynx Technology adds IPv6, DIAL, and audiobook support, in addition to increased performance.
Since the launch of Twonky in 2004, customers around the world have relied on the proven performance and advanced capabilities of this industry-leading media connectivity solution. Twonky offers broad platform support (including iOS, Android, Linux, Windows, Mac OS, QNX) and supports interoperability with popular media adapters (including Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, and DLNA devices like smart TVs).
“With the release of Twonky 8.2, we are proud to continue Twonky’s legacy as the premier media connectivity solution for the connected home for more than a decade,” said John Driver, CEO of Lynx Technology. “With continued introduction of new features and capabilities, we ensure that our customers can bring the most advanced and best digital media experiences for their consumers to enjoy.”
Specifically, new features of Lynx Technology’s latest Twonky 8.2 release include:
- IPv6 support – to provide dual-stack support for parallel operations for IPv4 and IPv6 across iOS (Apple has notified app developers that all apps submitted to its App Store must support IPv6 starting in early 2016), Linux, Windows and Mac. Supporting both IPv4 and IPv6 will allow Twonky-enabled applications to continue to work with existing devices, as well as to detect and support new IPv6-enabled devices in the home.
- DIAL support – by adding DIAL APIs to Twonky, our customers can build and control their own Smart TV apps. Twonky 8.2 also enables beaming to Amazon Fire TV through a DIAL/DLNA-based Twonky app that is available in the Amazon app store.
- Audiobook support – to allow easier browsing of audiobooks, with clear separation from the consumer’s music collection.
As with previous Twonky 8 releases, Twonky 8.2’s cloud-based capabilities make it easy for content providers to beam their own content from the cloud and from third party cloud services that are available through public APIs.
The new features added to Twonky 8.2 are in response to changing consumer preferences regarding media consumption in the connected home. By meeting changing consumer expectations and offering a superior media experience, our customers – the world’s leading consumer electronics manufacturers, service providers and content providers – can strengthen their relationships with current consumers, attract new ones, and reduce churn.
