SANDY SPRINGS, Ga., Oct. 11, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Dr. George D. Shida, optometrist and founder of Eye 1st Vision Center, is proud to announce that Eye 1st Vision Center offers Corneal Reshaping Therapy (CRT) to its patients.  CRT is a contact lens therapy that works while you sleep to reshape your cornea so that contacts and glasses are not needed during the day.

Corneal Reshaping Therapy uses specially designed contact lenses to reshape the cornea of the eye. This reshaping reduces astigmatism and myopia, or nearsightedness. These contact lenses are worn only at night while the patient sleeps. In the morning, the patient simply removes the lenses and vision is clear and comfortable throughout the entire day. CRT is also safe for children and can work to slow or stop the progression of myopia, or nearsightedness. CRT works to reshape the cornea, much like its surgical alternative Refractive Laser Surgery, or LASIK. CRT is much less expensive than LASIK, requires no steroid or antibiotic treatment, and patients can treat both eyes simultaneously, unlike LASIK.

Candidates for CRT therapy will require a comprehensive eye health examination and a computer topography of the eye to create a very precise map of the eye’s surface. These tools can identify which patients are good candidates for CRT.  After this examination and a consultation with Dr. Shida or Dr. Patel those who are good candidates for CRT will receive specially made lenses and an individualized treatment plan that includes follow-up visits in the office.

Dr. Shida stated, “If your goal is to be free of the routine of wearing contacts or the hassle of eyeglasses, then CRT is a viable solution to your problem.  For some people, like those who work in dirty or difficult environments daily, having perfect vision without the aid of glasses or contacts would be beneficial.  CRT is a great alternative, really for anyone, who wants to escape the hassle of contacts and eyeglasses but at the same time avoid vision correcting surgical procedures.”

CRT therapy corrects vision and allows patients to go contact lens free throughout the day. Patients who undergo CRT can escape problems commonly associated with contact lens wear such as eyes that are frequently irritated by dry lenses, complications from seasonal allergies, or even uncomfortable lenses caused by extreme astigmatism.
