HOUSTON, Sept. 23, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — DNV GL is initiating a Joint Industry Project (JIP) with the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) and oil majors to study and develop guidelines for the quality design, fabrication, and installation of subsea bolts.

This JIP is launched in response to BSEE’s request in the QC-Fit report published late last year, for which DNV GL Houston Subsea and Well Systems team recently hosted an industry breakfast seminar. The event allowed participants to share and discuss ideas surrounding the subsea bolt JIP initiative. The list of attendees included six major operators and service provider companies in addition to BSEE.

DNV GL will continue to work with the industry to provide practical guidance for the Gulf of Mexico and will seek buy-in from other regulators (UK HSE, Canadian CNLOPB, Brazil ANP), allowing for a common set of requirements for different regions.

“This is an important area for research, particularly for materials being utilized in operations in high temperature and high pressure settings and in other frontier areas such as the Arctic,” BSEE Director Brian M. Salerno said to Rigzone when a report on quality issues with bolts was published.
