Following all doctors’ recommendations, Sadie enduring multiple operations and medications that created swelling in her body like a balloon; the simplest task such as breathing was labored and Sadie could be heard struggling to live throughout the Higuera’s home. “Traditional” medical treatment options given to Sadie were clearly not working. Finally, Sadie’s parents were given one last treatment option – the “hero pill” – that would end her life in two months.

“That,” Brian Higuera, Sadie’s Father, explains, “…was not an option.”
