JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Sept. 1, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — ParkerVision, Inc. (Nasdaq:PRKR), a developer and marketer of semiconductor technology solutions for wireless applications, today announced that Petitions for Inter Partes Review (“IPR”) of three of the company’s patents were filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (“USPTO”). The petitions were filed by Qualcomm Incorporated and Qualcomm Atheros, Inc. (collectively, “Qualcomm”) requesting a review of certain claims of ParkerVision’s United States patent Nos.7,039,372, 7,966,012 and 6,091,940.

These three patents are among the eleven patents asserted in ParkerVision’s United States District Court infringement lawsuit against Qualcomm, HTC and Samsung (Middle District of Florida, Case 6:14-cv-687). These petitions request review of an aggregate of 82 claims out of over 500 total claims that constitute these three patents. The USPTO will review the petitions and determine whether or not to institute Inter Partes reviews within approximately six months.

Jeffrey Parker, Chairman and CEO, commented, “Since the establishment of the America Invents Act, or AIA, of 2012, the filing of IPR petitions by defendants in infringement lawsuits has become commonplace in an attempt to invalidate asserted patent claims.  The Patent Trial and Appeal Board allows defendants a one-year window in which to file petitions against asserted patent claims, and we believe the window for Qualcomm, as it relates to the remaining eight patents in our district court case, has now closed. We are in the process of reviewing and evaluating these petitions, and it is premature to speculate at this time what impact, if any, these proceedings may have on the district court case which is currently scheduled for trial in August 2016.”
