TOKYO and SAN DIEGO, Sept. 01, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — PacketVideo (PV), a subsidiary of NTT DOCOMO, today announced the recent acquisition by Lynx Technology (which is the DBA name of privately-held J.M. Driver LLC) of PV’s North American and European Connected Home business operations effective March 27, 2015. The business acquisition includes the grant of an irrevocable, non-exclusive license of PV’s market leading media technology, Twonky™, from PV to Lynx Technology.

Since the company’s launch in the U.S. in 1998, PacketVideo (www.pv.com) has grown to become a global leader in providing rich media experiences for many of the world’s leading service providers and consumer electronics companies.

Following the acquisition, PV will continue its operations in Japan, with no change to the Twonky technology or service offerings to its customers in Japan and Asia.

Lynx Technology (www.lynxtechnology.com) will continue to develop the Twonky software platform for its customers around the world, including North America, Europe and Asia.

“After considering a variety of interested buyers, we determined that Lynx Technology was the best choice to acquire our operations in North America and Europe,” said Kazushige Yoshida, CEO of PacketVideo Japan. “It was important to us to ensure a smooth transition for customers and staff in those markets.”

“NTT DOCOMO made the decision to sell PV’s North American and European operations to Lynx Technology due to their management team’s familiarity with and dedication to PV’s customers and commitment to quality,” said Mark Tapling, CEO of PacketVideo.

“It was an honor to be chosen by PV and NTT DOCOMO to acquire PV’s world-class operations in North America and Europe,” said John Driver, Chairman and CEO of Lynx Technology and owner of J.M. Driver LLC.  Prior to the acquisition, Mr. Driver was PacketVideo’s Chief Operating Officer. “We are committed to maintaining the quality and reliability, innovative products and professional services, and outstanding customer service, just as PV always has for its valued customers over many years.”

Lynx Technology is based in San Diego, California and has offices in Berlin, Germany; Tampere, Finland; and Basel, Switzerland.
