It offers containership freight services between the ports of Long Beach, Oakland, Seattle, and various ports in Hawaii on the islands of Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and Hawaii; and carries dry containers of mixed commodities, refrigerated commodities, packaged foods, building materials, automobiles, and household goods. The company also provides terminal, stevedoring, and container equipment maintenance services; and rail intermodal service, long-haul and regional highway brokerage, specialized hauling, flat-bed and project work, less-than-truckload, expedited/air freight services, and warehousing and distribution services. In addition, it offers rail, highway, air, warehousing, and other third-party logistics services for ocean carriers. Further, the company is involved in the development and sale of land, and commercial and residential properties; and ownership, operation, and management of retail, office, and industrial properties. As of December 31, 2011, it owned approximately 88,166 acres of land, consisting of approximately 87,695 acres in Hawaii and approximately 471 acres on the U.S. Mainland. Additionally, the company engages in the production of bulk raw sugar, specialty food-grade sugars, and molasses; marketing and transportation of raw sugar; marketing and distribution of specialty food-grade sugars; generation and sale of electricity to the local electric utility companies; and provision of general trucking, mobile equipment maintenance, and repair services. Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. was founded in 1870 and is headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii.
