CHICAGO, Oct. 14, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Carl F. Driscoll, DMD, FACP, will serve as Immediate Past-President of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP). His 2015-2016 presidency was celebrated during the 46th Annual Session of ACP held in San Diego from October 5-8.

During his presidency, Dr. Driscoll led the international not-for-profit’s 3,800+ members to chart a new course for its future. In addition, he oversaw the hiring of the new Executive Director for the ACP and the ACP Education Foundation, Linda Caradine-Poinsett, MBA, MJ, PhD, in September.

“Serving the College as ACP President for the past year has been one of my greatest professional highlights. The dedication and commitment of our members and staff is second to none. I would like to thank them all for their support during my presidential year,” ACP Immediate Past-President Dr. Carl Driscoll said. “We have a bright future ahead with President Brackett leading the way.”

Dr. Driscoll’s presidency emphasized education. He re-instituted the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program (the “Match”) for candidates applying for prosthodontic residencies and encouraged the adoption of advanced digital technology within the prosthodontic specialty.

Dr. Driscoll co-edited the book “Clinical Applications of Digital Dentistry” and served as a moderator at the 2016 ACP Digital Dental Symposium. Dr. Driscoll brought awareness to the prosthodontic profession, the ACP, and National Prosthodontics Awareness Week (NPAW) through his interview on NBC Chicago’s Weekend Web as well as Fox 45 News in Baltimore. He grew the ACP Spokesperson Network to 75 media-trained prosthodontists.

The significance placed on continuing education of digital solutions will remain with the ACP. Under Dr. Driscoll’s leadership, the ACP successfully launched the first of a three-year initiative for prosthodontists to develop digital dentistry curriculum for dental schools–-made possible due to Henry Schein’s $1.25 million award to the ACPEF.

During his tenure, the ACP released the first Clinical Practice-Guidelines for dental restoration, and launched a redesigned version of the consumer website, GoToAPro.org.

Dr. Driscoll is a professor and director of the Prosthodontic residency program at the University of Maryland Dental School. He previously served as President of both the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics and the American Board of Prosthodontics. He has given more than 300 presentations worldwide and authored more than 60 publications.

Prosthodontists are specialized dentists with advanced training in oral health issues, who are committed to improving patient outcomes. From implants, crowns, veneers, and tooth whitening, to full-mouth reconstruction, prosthodontists specialize in digital dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and sleep apnea solutions.
The ACP is the only prosthodontic specialty organization whose membership is based solely on education credentials. ACP members must be in or have completed an ADA-accredited advanced education program in Prosthodontics.
