BALTIMORE, Sept. 22, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — On September 24, 2016, Baltimore Equip to Achieve will host a special back-to-school event to prepare and enrich Baltimore scholars. Sponsored by Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated (NASDAQ:COKE) with support from the Baltimore City School System, Samaritan’s Feet and Mount Calvary AME Church, the Baltimore Equip to Achieve Program will distribute shoes, backpacks and other school supplies to local students. The goal is to ensure the students come back to school ready to learn, succeed and grow from the very first day.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Mount Calvary AME Church and Samaritan’s Feet to deliver school supplies and shoes in the Baltimore community,” said J. Frank Harrison III, Chairman and CEO of Coca-Cola Consolidated. “We hope this event helps start the school year on a positive note for these students.”

Coca-Cola Consolidated has a long history of serving those in need in communities across its franchise territory.  In February, Coca-Cola Consolidated partnered with Samaritan’s Feet at the CIAA Tournament in Charlotte, N.C. to bring 500 young people new shoes. In June, Coca-Cola Consolidated again partnered with Samaritan’s Feet for a day of service and healing in Charleston, SC, distributing more than 2,000 pairs of shoes.

“Samaritan’s Feet is honored to continue our partnership with CCBCC,” said Terry Tolbert, Executive Director of Marketing and Development for Samaritan’s Feet.  “This reconciliation and healing event in Baltimore on September 24 will serve 1,000 children who can benefit from new shoes for school.  Coca-Cola Consolidated has a long history of serving deeply in their communities, and Samaritan’s Feet is proud to serve alongside them.  This is an authentic demonstration of servant leadership and community investment, which will truly make a difference, one person at a time.”

“Our legacy is really what we do for others, not how much money we make or how many material things we acquire.  We will never know the ripple effect of our actions and obedience if we sit on the sidelines as spectators,” said Emmanuel “Manny” Ohonme of Samaritan’s Feet.

The event will also include an empowerment session with local police organizations called ‘Cops & Community.’ This collaborative conversation promotes positive relationships, awareness and neighborhood safety within the community and policemen and policewomen.
