The Balloon Council, a national association of balloon manufacturers, distributors and retailers, is encouraging people to go out and lift up somebody in their neighborhood with the gift of balloons, whether it is a veteran, police officer, cancer survivor or senior, choose somebody who needs a lift. Say thank you for your service! Or you can do it! Or we’re glad you’re here! And when you say it with balloons, post a photo to facebook or instagram with the hashtag #liftupsomebody to win prizes throughout the month of September. Balloon manufacturer Anagram has generously donated thousands of #liftupsomebody foil balloons that are going out to the Balloon Council’s network of Responsible Balloon Retailers this month. The Balloon Council Street Team recently hit the streets of New York City lifting New Yorkers’ spirits and handing out #liftupsomebody balloons.

“We are so excited about the 2015 International Balloon Month participation levels within the industry and around the globe. We have engagement on social media from as far away as Malaysia and Ghana this year. And we have members planning events from Indiana to Italy. We can’t wait to see people’s creative balloon photos!” said Lorna O’Hara, Balloon Council Executive Director.

International Balloon Month was founded to affirm the world’s ongoing love affair with the balloon, and coincides with Inventor Michael Faraday’s birthday on September 22nd. He inspired generations of discovery – but his most enduring daily legacy was the invention of the ordinary, extraordinary balloon. He was the self-educated son of a migrant blacksmith – a stunning genius in the field of chemistry, electricity and magnetism. For humility’s sake he would decline Knighthood by the Queen, preferring to forever remain an ordinary “Mr.” He invented the rubber balloon in 1824.

Whether you choose foil or latex balloons to decorate for a birthday party or to let someone know you care, balloons bring just a little bit of magic into our everyday lives. So share your #liftupsomebody moment on facebook or instagram for a chance to win one amazing balloon bouquet.

About the Balloon Council: The Balloon Council (TBC), an organization of retailers, distributors and manufacturers, was formed in 1990 to educate consumers and regulators about the wonders of foil and latex balloons and the proper handling of them.
