ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Aug. 31, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Berry Company, publisher of Alaska Communications-branded Yellow Pages, completed its seventh-annual Think Yellow, Go Green recycling program in Anchorage. The program encouraged residents and businesses to bring their outdated directories to one of the Think Yellow, Go Green collection bins around the city, as well as in their curbside bins, for recycling as the 2015 directory was distributed in Anchorage. The Berry Company partnered with Fred Meyer stores, University of Alaska-Anchorage (UAA) and Alaskans for Litter Prevention (ALPAR) on the program.

The program kicked off at the Summer Solstice Festival in Anchorage. Volunteers from The Berry Company and local non-profit organization, ALPAR, were at the Berry Summer Solstice Festival booth collecting books, and the “Moose on the Loose” distributed information about recycling drop locations. There also were environment-focused activities and posters for kids.

Additionally throughout the month, outdated telephone directories were collected at Fred Meyer stores, the Alaska Communications parking lot, on UAA’s campus and at curbside bins across the city. These directories, which are 100-percent recyclable, will be converted into reusable materials, such as home insulation and mulch, by Alaska Waste.

“The Berry Company is committed to recycling the outdated directories each year as the new directory is delivered in the communities we serve, and also to raising awareness about recycling and protecting the local environment,” said Chris Vaughn, Branch Manager of The Berry Company in Anchorage. “We are grateful for our local partners, who care about the Anchorage community as much as we do, and would like to thank the Anchorage residents for their ongoing support.”

Recycling and environmental sustainability are important initiatives year-round, so residences and businesses throughout Anchorage should check with their local recycling department for more information on recycling programs offered in their area.

Consumers throughout Anchorage use multiple sources when they are looking for local products and services, according to a Booth research study conducted last year. A large number of consumers turn to the Yellow Pages, in addition to other online, social and mobile sources for local search. The Berry Company has transformed its approach to help businesses ensure they are accessible wherever consumers are searching. The company’s legacy is in print directories but it also provides online directories, web sites, search engine marketing, video and more.
