LAS VEGAS, Jan. 11, 2012 /CNW/ - Vuzix Corporation (TSX-V: VZX, OTCBB: VUZI), award-winning manufacturer of video eyewear, announced today that it has won two innovation awards at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) the first for an advanced 3D capable pair of Video Eyewear, and the second for a new monocular see through HMD for the Industrial Augmented Reality solutions.
Vuzix is also showing its Augmented Reality (AR) and Mobile Video Eyewear Offerings, using the latest Wrap series Video Eyewear and maxReality software. Also being shown is the Wrap 1200 3D Mobile Video Eyewear with HDMI connectivity using the new HDMI Power Pak. The HDMI Power Pak allows for hours of operation with mobile devices like the Android phones and home HDMI sources alike.
Finally, Vuzix is also showcasing its SMART Glasses Technology. This new technology is a complete HD see through lens with display engine that neatly fits into the temples of designer styled sunglasses. As the name implies, SMART Glasses Technology is much more than just a wearable TV. LAS VEGAS – Vuzix Corporation (TSX-V: VZX, OTC:BB: VUZI, FMB: V7X), award-winning manufacturer of video eyewear, is excited to unveil SMART Glasses Technology – Integrated HD display engines and waveguide optics that literally break the boundaries of conventional optics and display solutions. For decades wearable displays have been referred to as Head Mounted Displays because of their bulky size and odd appearance; primarily attributable to the displays and conventional refractive and or reflective optics that they employ. This older technology is limited by the laws of optical physics that result in form factors that are large, heavy, and practically impossible to make into fashion eyewear.
Now after years of internal developments and our recent licensing relationship with Nokia Corporation, SMART Glasses Technology is finally here. This amazing new technology starts with a compact display engine capable of hi contrast and brightness for outdoor use. The output is then relayed into a 1.4 mm thick polymer waveguide lens with input and output hologram structures on the surface which squeezes the light down the waveguide and then two dimensionally expands the image back into the user’s eye, creating an image that is then mixed into the real world. And, all this technology neatly fits into the temples & lenses of a conventional pair of eyewear!
As the name implies, SMART Glasses are much more than just a wearable TV. Designed to work with SMART Devices that are typically connected to the internet, SMART Glasses are interactive and merge virtual information with the real world. They can be used at night or outdoors in full daylight.
Vuzix is planning a line of both monocular and binocular SMART Glasses for the Commercial, Industrial and Consumer markets. Shipments of Tac-Eye LT(R) Displays to the U.S. Air Force’s Battlefield Air Operations Kit Program
The award is expected to represent approximately $3 million of new business to Vuzix if all options of the contract are exercised, with these first deliveries representing over $1 million.
The Tac-Eye LT is a next generation wearable display solution for viewing computer data or video from a variety of video sensors. The system was developed over the last five years with funding support from various U.S. military commands including the Air Force Research Laboratory, Air Force Special Operations Command and the U.S. Special Operations Command.
