SFES Finds Private Investors and

Announces AMID Stapler Available for Immediate Shipment

SafeStitch Medical, Inc. (OTCBB:SFES) Miami-based SafeStitch Medical, Inc. is a medical device company primarily developing endoscopic and minimally invasive surgical devices. SafeStitch product portfolio includes the AMID Stapler(TM), endoscopic gastroplasty devices for bariatric (obesity) surgery and repair of gastroesophageal reflux disorder (GERD), a standard bite block, an airway bite block and the SMART(TM) Dilator. The Company has also started development of devices for excision and diagnosis of Barrett’s esophagus and natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES). In the last week SFES announced that it has closed on the issuance of approximately five million shares of the Company’s Common Stock, par value $0.001, at a price of $1.00 per share. The shares were issued on June 15, 2010 pursuant to a stock purchase agreement with 20 private investors for aggregate proceeds of approximately $5.0 million. Shares issued pursuant to the stock purchase agreement are restricted securities, and no registration rights have been granted.

Among the investors purchasing shares pursuant to the agreement were Frost Gamma Investments Trust, an entity controlled by Dr. Phillip Frost, the largest beneficial owner of the Company’s common stock, Hsu Gamma Investments, L.P., an entity controlled by Dr. Jane Hsiao, the Company’s Chairman of the Board and Grandtime Associates Limited, a Taiwan-based investment company.

Shortly following that announcement SFES announced the commercial sales launch of the AMID Stapler(TM) Inguinal and Ventral Hernia Repair System. The AMID Stapler is available for immediate shipment to US surgeons.

Because hernia repairs using the AMID Stapler(TM) require less surgical wound retraction, the procedure is potentially less painful due to reduced tissue contusion.

There are approximately 600,000 patients undergoing inguinal hernia repair in the US each year. The AMID Stapler(TM) is a new transitional device in the treatment of hernias in that it may also result in faster patient turnaround in the Operating Room. A fast procedure time and less tissue manipulation should provide patients with a more comfortable recovery with the potential to return to work in less time.

The AMID Stapler(TM) is pre-loaded with 17 titanium staples, enough to both secure mesh in the hernia sac as part of the popular Lichtenstein hernia repair and to close the skin when the procedure is completed, eliminating the need for a separate skin stapler or manual closing. SafeStitch will be conducting a series of educational programs to train surgeons in the use of the AMID Stapler(TM) under the guidance of world-renowned hernia specialist Dr. Parviz Amid.
